Glass Studio Artist Rentals: Policies and Pricing

STUDIO RENTALS 2014

All renters must check in at the Visitor Services desk upon arrival. Hot Shop and kiln renters must fill out a claim ticket for all work to be retrieved. All objects will be removed from the kiln by our staff. Renters may pick up their work during regular posted public hours from the Studio’s front desk.

Hot Shop rental time is limited to graduates of Amorphous Solid 2 with instructor consent and to professional artists with significant experience. Studio orientation and a signed waiver are required. Hot Shop rental includes one glory hole, bench, use of hot shop pipes, punties, hand tools, blocks, paddles, propane torch, compressed air, knock-off table, use of a color oven, reasonable amount of space in an annealing oven, and use of up to 30 lbs. of clear glass from the furnace per three-hour session. We charge $1 per pound for glass over the 30 lb. limit. Renters must provide their own assistants and color. There is a minimum of 3 hours for Hot Shop rentals and they must be prepaid.
    Available on most Saturday evenings, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
    (The first Saturday of each month is designated for hot casting unless no one signs up.)
    12” Glory hole: $40 per hour for Museum Members, $50 per hour for all others
    21” Glory hole: $55 per hour for Museum Members, $65 per hour for all others

Hot casting rental time is limited to individuals with prior hot ladle casting experience. Studio orientation and a signed waiver are required. Hot casting rental includes use of recyclable sand, hand tools, propane torch, compressed air, space in an annealing oven with a 36-hour cycle, and up to 30 lbs. of clear glass from the furnace per three-hour session. We charge $1 per pound for glass over the 30 lb. limit. Renters must provide their own assistants and color. Onsite mold preparation is considered part of the rental time. There is a minimum of 1 hour for Hot Casting rentals and they must be prepaid.

    $40 per hour for Museum Members, $50 per hour for all others

Flameworking rental time is limited to students who have taken a one-day flameworking workshop at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio or individuals with prior experience. Flameworking rentals include use of our torch, hand tools, oxygen, propane, and kiln space. Renters must supply their own glass materials. There is a minimum of 1 hour for flameworking rentals and they must be prepaid.
    Available Friday afternoons,1:30–5 p.m.
    Available Saturday evenings, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
    Other times upon request, as scheduling permits
    Individual flameworking torch: $12 per hour for Museum Members, $15 per hour for all others

Cold Shop rental time is limited to individuals who have taken a one-day coldworking workshop at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio or individuals with prior experience. Cold Shop rentals include use of Chrysler Museum Glass Studio belts, wheels, and core bits. If excessive use of one particular wheel, bit, or belt is required for a large project, the Chrysler Museum reserves the right to request that the renter purchase his/her own equipment. Renters must leave a photo ID at the front desk while working and pay after each session in half -hour or hour increments.
    Available Thursday to Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
    Available Wednesday evenings, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
    Available Sunday afternoons, noon–5 p.m.
    Cold Shop rental: $15 per hour for Museum Members, $20 per hour for all others

Kiln rental time is limited to individuals who have taken a one-day fusing workshop at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio or individuals with prior experience. Rental includes the kiln for a one-day firing.
    Scheduled upon request.
    Kiln daily rate: $50 for Museum Members, $55 for all others.
