Carolyn and Richard Barry Curator of Glass
One of the leading fine arts institutions in the Southeast, the Chrysler Museum of Art seeks a curator for its internationally renowned glass collection.
Numbering more than 10,000 objects, the Chrysler's comprehensive glass holdings range from ancient core-formed vessels to major examples of contemporary and studio glass, with extraordinary concentrations of 19th-century American, English, and French glass. In addition to holding primary responsibility for the display, interpretation, research, and care of the permanent collection, as well as its growth through acquisition, the curator will organize and oversee innovative and lively special exhibitions of both historic and contemporary glass. S/he will also serve as an enthusiastic advocate and promoter of glass, developing and maintaining productive relationships with colleagues, patrons, and collectors locally and nationally.
Candidates for the position will have completed an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) with major studies in American and European glass and at least three years of museum experience. They must possess solid communications skills, demonstrating an ability to write for, and speak to, both broad and specialized audiences. The Candidate must also possess considerable interpersonal and teamwork skills and perform as a member of a dynamic museum team dedicated to welcoming and serving the public and passionate about the capacity of works of art to change people's lives.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Salary will be commensurate with academic qualifications and museum experience.
