Dale Chihuly, one of Harvey Littleton's first students, later studied glass blowing in 1968 at the Venini factory in Venice under a Fulbright Fellowship. These billowing sea forms reflect the influence of that famous factory. Chihuly's title Macchia means "spotted" in Italian. Since making this small-scale sculpture, Chihuly has gone on to create gargantuan sculptures and site-specific installations which incorporate hundreds of blown glass elements.
