A seminal artist in the history of British photography, Fenton’s romantic landscapes allowed the viewer to dwell in harmony amongst nature. The Wharfe is the name of the river and the Strid refers to the narrowing of the river where one could stride across the rushing torrent of water.  Today, this landscape still exists on the Yorkshire estate of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, Bolton Abbey.
