Library
A September 2002 independent assessment of the Jean
Outland Chrysler Library at the Chrysler Museum described
it as “second to none among art libraries south of Washington
and east of Texas” but said it needed more staff. The
Campaign for the Future is working to secure $1 million
to create an endowed chair for the Library. This endowment
would generate approximately $50,00 per year to pay for appropriate
staffing.
QUICK FACT ABOUT THE LIBRARY
• The Library is used daily by Museum
staff, docents and volunteers, and students and faculty of
area universities, along with the general public.
• The Library has 80,000 volumes and 250 serial subscriptions.
It has particularly strong holdings of artist monographs,
and books on photography and glass -- reflecting major strengths
of the Museum's collection. It has an extensive run of rare
periodicals, an extraordinarily rich collection of clippings
and artist ephemera.
• It also has a computerized catalogue that is accessible
on-line. And, the
Library's A. Kempton d'Ossche Video Collection has over 500
titles, which cover a variety of artists and art-related projects.
• The Library is named in honor of the wife of the late
Walter P. Chrysler, Jr., who played a leading role in its
formation and expansion.
