Saturday at the Glass Studio
Jan 19, 2013
We offer a free glass art demo every day at noon.
On the calendar today for classes or special events:
• Introductory Glassblowing: Champagne Paperweight
This is our most popular introductory class. In these two-hour sessions you'll use a blowpipe to convert hot glass into a colorful champagne paperweight. In the process, you’ll get familiar with the Studio equipment and working with molten glass. Today's session begins at 2 p.m. and you can sign up or get more details here. You can repeat these classes for more practice or advance to more in-depth instruction.
• Two-Weekend Workshop: A Survey of Four Glass Processes
In two Saturdays you can learn four different glass techniques—glassblowing, flameworking, fusing and coldworking. From creative paperweights to carefully constructed tiles, from beautiful colored or clear beads to elegantly engraved creations, here's a fun way to learn the possibilities of glass. Held on consecutive Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Jan. 19 and 26, Feb. 16 and 23, March 16 and 23, and April 20 and 27). You can sign up online. ($175 Members, $225 all others).
• Two-Day Workshop: Flameworking (Torches, Tools and Hot Rods)
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19-20.
Play with fire at our torch benches and learn about using borosilicate glass to build beads, marbles, and other projects. Learn how heat and gravity work together on glass, then melt colored rods to apply dots, stringers, and other details to your work. Different tools and types of glass allow for a variety of forms, designs, and textures, so try them all this weekend. To sign up, click here. ($150 Members, $200 all others).
