Sunday at the Glass Studio

Sunday at the Glass Studio

Jan 13, 2013

We offer a free glass art demo every day at noon.

On the calendar today for classes or special events:

• Girl Scout Badges: Hot Glass Casting
Today from 10-11 a.m. Girl Scout Juniors can make a sand impression with their hand, add their own creative coloring, and then get to experience the wonder of glassmaking as the Studio Team handles the pouring of the molten glass. A wonderful learning opportunity and a one-of-a-kind keepsake. This session will be repeated Sunday, Feb. 10. Sign up here. ($25)

• Girl Scout Brownies: Painting on Glass
Today from 10-11 a.m., the girls can experiment and get creative with fired-on glass paint. They'll be using vitreous enamels (fired-on paint) to bring tiles and panels to life with color and light! Sign up here. ($12)

• Introductory Glassblowing: Champagne Paperweight
This is our most popular introductory class. In these two-hour sessions you'll use a blowpipe to convert hot glass into a colorful champagne paperweight. In the process, you’ll get familiar with the Studio equipment and working with molten glass. Today's session begins at 2 p.m. and you can sign up or get more details here. You can repeat these classes for more practice or advance to more in-depth instruction.

• Two-Hour Class: Introduction to Flameworking
From 2-4 p.m. today, come get a taste of an addicting form of glass art—the molding of glass by way of a torch. In introductory classes you make beads and marbles as a way to learn the craft. You can then advance your skills by taking atwo-night course that moves you from beads to figures (offered Jan. 23, Feb. 6 and 13, March 6 and 13). If you do well at that, you can then consider a two-day workshop called Blowing on the Torch that will be offered March 16-17. After that you can start looking at booking private time and calling yourself a Jedi master. To sign up for this first step, click here. ($40 Members, $60 all others).
