10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
The next speaker in the Norfolk Society of Arts lecture series will be Gary Garrels, Senior Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The title of his talk is The New SFMOMA and the Fisher Collection.
Garrels will be discussing two recent, and major, developments in the history of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art—a three-year expansion project and the donation of the private collection of Doris and Donald Fisher, founders of Gap Inc. Quite simply, a museum once considered a hometown institution has transformed into one of the world's largest museums of modern and contemporary art.
The Norfolk Society of Arts promotes and enhances the cultural life of the South Hampton Roads community through lectures, special events, and financial support to the Chrysler Museum of Art, and is celebrating its centennial year in 2017.
NSA members gather for coffee and conversation at 10:30 a.m. and Garrels will speak at 11 a.m. inside the Kaufman Theater. For more on the NSA, click here.Import to Calendar Share
