The Chrysler Museum was a partner with the Virginia Arts Festival and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in the presentation of Bluebeard's Castle at Chrysler Hall April 18-19, 2015. This installation will be on view through June 7.

Chihuly is credited with revolutionizing the Studio Glass movement and elevating the perception of the glass medium from the realm of craft to fine art. He was introduced to glass while studying interior design at the University of Washington in the early 1960s. He later enrolled in the first glass program in the country, at the University of Wisconsin, and went on to serve as head of the Department of Sculpture and the Program in Glass at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Chihuly would eventually return to his home state of Washington and co-found a school dedicated to glassmaking on a tree farm just north of Seattle. The school, called Pilchuck after the farm, has been a mecca for glassmakers worldwide since its founding in 1971. Now, at age 73, the artist continues to create in his signature series.
