AFTER SELLING CARS in Italy from 1970-1977, Steve Barney founded Foreign Cars Italia and now owns Sport Auto, both located in Greensboro, NC and dealing in classic Ferraris and exotic foreign cars. Besides his expertise in Ferrari mechanics, Mr. Barney is a Ferrari owner and has had extensive personal experience with the cars. Living in Italy afforded him the opportunity to participate in the traditional Mille Miglia Ferrari Race five times, from 1986-1990. The Mille Miglia, as its name suggests, follows a 1000-mile course on open roads throughout Italy. It ran annually between 1927-1957 and was reinstated by the Italian government in 1982. Mr. Barney was also a personal acquaintance of Enzo Ferrari. He is a retired senior concourse judge with the Ferrari Club of America.
MR. BARNEY’S PRESENTATIONS are organized in conjunction with the Chrysler Museum of Art’s special exhibition La Bella Macchina: The Art of Ferrari. The show, on view from April 13 – July 20, 2003, represents the first American exhibition devoted to classic Ferrari automobiles. It documents the evolution of the design of Ferrari as both fine art and leading-edge technology. Visitors will have an chance to examine the craftsmanship, beauty, and art of the outstanding collection of Ferraris brought together expressly for this exhibition. Twelve world-class Ferraris will be on display, including open-wheel racing, road, and sports models, dating from the 1930s-1990s.
