Greece and Rome: From the Ancient to the Modern World
This three-part program offers students a chance to learn how life in the United States has been influenced by the ancient world cultures of Greece and Rome by exploring the home of the Myers family. During a brief walking tour, students discover how neoclassical elements have shaped architecture in downtown Norfolk. Finally, students create their own plaster ornaments in a hands-on workshop. Cost: $2.00 per student.

An Eagle Soars – Life in the Early United States
Students discover life in the United States at the time of the ratification of the Constitution and the creation of the new American nation. Through the example of the Myers family of Norfolk, students catch a glimpse of life during the days of George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and the Founding Fathers. By interacting with objects and primary source documents, students gain an understanding of how their lives today differ from those of the past. Cost: $2.00 per student.

First Citizens – Civics Through Art and History
In this civics program, students learn how the early American nation crafted a new identity based on the ideals of public service. They also discover how local citizen Moses Myers lived up to that ideal in his professional, political, and personal life. Cost: $2.00 per student.

Sail into History
(Grades 3, 4, & 5)
An exciting three-part program of living history, sailing, and touring in which students learn about Norfolk's maritime heritage. Students will tour the Myers House, meet one of Moses Myers' mariners, and tour the Elizabeth River on the American Rover. No outreach included with this tour. Cost: $12.50 per student (75 students minimum).

Norfolk History Outreach Packets
Teachers: enhance your social studies lessons with a series of CD-ROMs on key topics in Norfolk history. Each packet is free and includes contextual information, primary source documents, and suggestions on how to integrate this information into classroom activities. Or contact us to have a staff interpreter visit your classroom!
Norfolk – Early Settlement to the Civil War
This program highlights how the geographical location of Norfolk shaped its economic and community development.
