Planning Your Visit

When are guided tours offered?
Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours are approximately 50 minutes in length, unless otherwise requested or noted.

How do I arrange a tour at the Museum?
By calling (757) 333-6269. Be prepared to provide the number of students attending, grade level, preferred date, and tour topic.

How do I arrange a tour at the Historic Houses?
By calling (757) 333-1085/1086.  Be prepared to provide the number of students attending, grade level, preferred date, and tour topic.

Do I need to schedule a self-guided tour?
To provide a pleasant atmosphere for our tour groups, it is important to notify and schedule independent tours through the Education Department.

How do I prepare my students for a tour?
You may request a historic houses classroom outreach program when you schedule your tour.

What is the admission for a group tour?
Museum gallery tours are $2.00 per student. Other programs are priced as noted. Teachers are admitted free, as well as one chaperone for every 10 students. Ask about admission arrangements for students receiving Free and Reduced lunch.

How will my group be divided?
Your group will be divided by a staff member according to the number of docents/interpreters available. Please do not pre-divide your group unless specifically requested to do so by the Education Department.

Is the Museum accessible to the disabled?
Yes. The Museum is barrier free. Special parking and a ramped entrance are located on the Grace Street side of the building. A limited number of wheelchairs are available. The Historic Houses are not wheelchair accessible.

Where does my group enter the museum?
You should bring your group to the Main Entrance by the circular drive unless requested to do otherwise by a member of the Education Department.
