A lens to the world: Photographs by bob learner
photojournalism hands-on project
PHOTOJOURNALISM: Journalism in which a news story is presented primarily through photographs with supplementary written copy.

The Chrysler Museum of Art invites local photographers and photojournalists to participate in a Photojournalism Hands-On Project to be held in conjunction with A Lens to the World: Photographs by Bob Lerner, on view at the Museum through August 17, 2003.

Participants will submit a feature spread with text and photographs, examples of which can be found in the exhibition. Topics may include personal profiles, an exploration of issues of local or global importance, or any other topic of choice. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss their entries with professionals and experts in the field.

Entries will be displayed at the Museum on Saturday, May 10, 2003, and one first-place entry will be printed in a local publication. The Museum may also select entries to be used in various other publications. Please read the Photojournalism Hands-On Project guidelines below. Specific questions can be addressed to Kristi McMillan at (757) 333-6268 or e-mail kmcmillan@chrysler.org.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
This Photojournalism Hands-On Project is FREE and easy to enter! No extra fees are involved, but participants must have their own word-processing and photographic equipment and be responsible for any costs associated with printing or processing. Project participants DO NOT pay Museum Admission to attend related events.

ELIGIBILITY
This Project is open to amateur and professional photographers and photojournalists of all ages. Museum employees and their immediate families may participate. All entries must be the original work (text, photographs) of the participant, and all materials must be submitted for review by Thursday, May 1, 2003, by 5 p.m. at the Museum.

HOW DO I ENTER?
Participants should submit their entries in feature spread format. Examples of feature spreads are currently on view at the Museum in A Lens to the World: Photographs by Bob Lerner. All text and images must fit on two 8½”×11” pages or one 11”×17” ledger-sized page. Participants may use a maximum of seven (7) images for each entry. Your completed participation form (below) should be typed or neatly printed and submitted to the address below. No e-mailed forms will be accepted. The participant’s name, telephone number, and the title of the entry should be written on EACH page of text and photo submitted. Important: Each recognizable person in the text/photo(s) must sign a release, which is included with the participation form. There is no limit on the number of individual entries; each entry must be submitted separately and must adhere to these guidelines.
