The Chrysler Museum of Art and The Sherwin-Williams Company are pleased and excited to announce their partnership in introducing a new national line of paint colors based on the beautiful walls within the Museum’s permanent collection galleries. The “Chrysler Museum Colors Collection” will consist of twelve lush and vivid hues with names such as Elizabethan Umber, Baroque Blue, and Impressionist Rose. Through this first-of-its-kind partnership, the public will now be able to model the interior of their homes after the design of a world-class Museum like the Chrysler.
Director of the Museum, William Hennessey, enthusiastically concurs, “Over the past several years the Chrysler has earned a national reputation for the elegance and beauty of our exhibition galleries. We are proud that through our partnership with Sherwin-Williams, it is now possible for people to enjoy the same rich, warm colors in their own homes.”
The idea for this unique partnership developed following two important renovations of the Chrysler’s galleries. The first, completed in 2001, involved the Museum’s 19th- and early 20th-Century galleries. The second renovation consisted of refurbishing the Chrysler’s seven early European galleries, renamed the Dalis Foundation Galleries of European Art. In each case the handsome makeovers, which included freshly painted walls with specially-mixed colors, allowed viewers to see Old Masters in a dramatic new light.

color palette shown below is only an approximation of the actual
paint colors. To see the actual colors, please visit the Chrysler

“We’re delighted for the opportunity to work along with the Chrysler Museum in the creation of this color palette,” says Sheri Thompson, Director of Color Marketing and Design for Sherwin-Williams. “Our color consultants were inspired by the Museum’s architectural elegance and its extraordinary collections, as well as by the knowledge and professionalism of its staff.” Thompson says the palette development process was both a worthwhile and rewarding experience for all Sherwin-Williams staff involved in the effort.
To kick-off the partnership and announce the “Chrysler Museum Colors Collection” the Museum and Sherwin-Williams hosted a very special event on Wednesday, April 6. During that day, Sherwin-Williams held a CEU course on 2005 Color Trends for AIA-CSI professionals in Hampton Roads. Members of the design community were invited to tour the galleries and view the actual Chrysler colors, then attended the CEU course on 2005 Color Trends, conducted by Becky Ralich Spak, Senior Designer with Sherwin-Williams Color Marketing and Design Department, which is based at the company’s corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio.
