The Museum Theatre is about to begin a complete renovation. During the next nine months its capacity will be expanded by 75 seats, with the addition of new walls and ceiling treatments, along with improved lighting and sound systems. The Theatre lobby will be expanded into a comfortable social space, while new backstage equipment will be added and facilities for performers upgraded.

During the period of construction, in order to provide the most effective and convenient access for all visitors, beginning Wednesday, March 17, the Tour Entrance and Disabled Access will be moved to the Museum’s Main Entrance, with a new aluminum ramp and motorized portable wheelchair lift for safety and convenience.

Scheduled to re-open in the fall of 2004, the finished Theatre will be one of Hampton Roads most attractive and functional performing spaces, with the anticipation that it will be a multi-purpose site for lectures and films, as well as musical, dance, and theatrical productions.
