Tiffany Studios (American)
Portrait of Woman in a Pergola with Wisteria, ca. 1915
Stained glass, 106 ½ x 86 inches
Gift of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr.
Typical of the grand residential windows that Tiffany Studios made for wealthy patrons, this window is said to have been salvaged from Pembroke, the Glen Cove, Long Island, mansion of Joseph Raphael De Lamar, and is thought to depict De Lamar's wife, Nellie Virginia Sands De Lamar. The wisteria-draped pillars suggest that the figure stands in a pergola (a colonnaded trellis fashionable in gardens at the turn of the century).
