Though done in the
mid-'80s, Be a Somebody with a Body revisits imagery perfected by the artist as
early as 1960, when he first began using the self-improvement ads found in the back pages
of tabloids and fan magazines as subjects for his art. Based on ads for baldness, cosmetic
surgery, and muscle building, the resulting paintings reflected Warhol's preoccupation
with his own looks at the time and constituted a major contribution to the iconography of
