Though done in the mid-'80s, Be a Somebody with a Body revisits imagery perfected by the artist as early as 1960, when he first began using the self-improvement ads found in the back pages of tabloids and fan magazines as subjects for his art. Based on ads for baldness, cosmetic surgery, and muscle building, the resulting paintings reflected Warhol's preoccupation with his own looks at the time and constituted a major contribution to the iconography of Pop themes.
